Shredding and Recycling Event - Earth Day 2026

 

Norfolk State University's Environmental Equity Model Project and Department of Energy & Sustainability are offering an annual Shredding and Recycling Event, taking place on Earth Day 2026, Wednesday, April 22.
 

  • Location #1:  Facilities Management Parking lot from 9 a.m.-noon.
  • Location #2:  Student Services Building from 1-3 p.m.
     

Students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community can securely dispose of unwanted documents.

 

Please see the items that can/cannot be shredded below.

 

Allowed:

  • Any type of paper
  • Old homework assignments
  • Medical records
  • Tax returns
  • Bank statements
  • Canceled checks
  • Paper Clips
  • Ring Binders
  • Secured Documents - 10 years and older.

 

Prohibited:

  • Batteries
  • Plastic
  • Electronics
  • Wood products
  • Cardboard

 

Norfolk State University Students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community will be allowed to dispose of both university and personal documents.

Disposal of shredded and recycled items will be handled by Commonwealth Document Management (CDM).

 

The event may end early if the shred and electronic recycling trucks reach capacity. 

 


***Departments that need special attention because the amount of documents needing shredded are just too much to be able to bring out to the shredding truck, accommodations can be made to pick up documents to be shredded please email Richard Martin remartin@nsu.edu  so a time, location and point of contact can be obtained.***.
