Norfolk State Collects Food and Essential Items for Students

Effort is part of the National Day of Service

In support of the National Day of Service, Norfolk State University is sponsoring a food and essential items pantry drive from Monday, January 13, through Friday, January 31. The National Day of Service is held on the federal holiday that honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Nonperishable food and essential items will be donated to the Norfolk State University Spartan Food Pantry. This year, we’ve added items to support our on-campus Professional Clothes Closet to ensure that students who are in need will have access to professional wear as they engage in experiential learning. 

The Office of Alumni Relations & Annual Giving, along with the NSU Alumni Association, Inc., Office of Housing and Residence Life, Office of Career Services and the RCN Honors College, are hosting this essential items drive. A recent study showed that in 2020 close to 4 million students nationwide experienced food insecurity and the numbers have not decreased at the rate expected, still today. This drive is a tangible and direct effort to support student persistence, graduation and success while at NSU.

A list of items can be found on this Amazon Wishlist, which is a fast and effective way to donate needed items directly to the Spartan Food Pantry and Professional Clothes Closet wherever you might be located. This list is frequently updated to reflect our current needs.
