Important Update:
Police Department Lobby Hours & Enhanced Security Measures

After hours, the main police lobby door will be locked, and access to the lobby will be restricted. Students and visitors must request entry using the intercom system affixed to the building (aiphone pictured below). police lobby photo

Please note that university police officers and dispatchers will remain on duty at all times (24 hours a day and 7 days a week) to assist you. The University Police Department's number is 757-823-8102.

Key Points to Keep in Mind:

Security Measures:
Securing the lobby doors allows personnel in the police dispatch center to monitor and control who enters the building, preventing unauthorized access and enhancing overall safety.

Proper Signage:
Prior to implementation, clear signage will be posted on the main exterior doors, indicating the lobby hours and how to ask for assistance.

Intercom System:
All visitors must use the aiphone system  to communicate with staff and request entry. Once inside the lobby, use the wall phone to connect you with a dispatcher who will assist you.

Emergency Situations:
In the event of an emergency, the doors can be unlocked automatically from the police department's central control room.

Suspicious Activity:
Report to campus police at (757) 823-9000 or call 911.

Download the NSU Safe app (available on the Apple App Store and Google Play) and select Norfolk State University as your location to report concerns or call for help.

For Emergency Assistance, call 911.

Your safety and security remain our highest priority, and we thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we implement these measures.
